|
|
Greetings to everyone at Forumwise!
You know, for the past couple of weeks. I've been contemplating on the possibilities of producing or the existing production of a particular item called "Air Treks".
What is Air Gear?
Air Gear (Ea Gia?) is a shounen manga and anime by the mangaka Oh! great.
Air Gear is about the lives of Minami Itsuki "Ikki" and his friends along with the latest in-universe trend, Air Trecks. The early parts of the story carry out the introduction of characters that eventually join Ikki, and as the story progresses, it focuses on their roles as Storm Riders and their quest to be on the top of the Trophaeum Tower. It won the 2006 Kodansha Manga Award.
Story
Itsuki "Ikki" Minami, is a student and a delinquent. Also known as the "Unbeatable Babyface", Ikki is the leader of the youth gang by the name of "East Side Gunz". Upon his return home after being humiliated by a street gang of Storm Riders called the Skull Saders, Ikki discovers a secret hidden from him by his benefactors, the Noyamano sisters. The sisters belong to a group of Storm Riders who go by the team name of Sleeping Forest. In the anime, learning the sisters' secret angers him and he steals a pair of Air Trecks, abbreviated as "AT". (In the manga, the sisters give a pair of ATs to him and invite him to skate with them.) Ikki eventually settles his grudge with the Skull Saders, but in the process he receives more than the simple satisfaction of revenge. Determined to experience the sensation of "flight" for as long as he can, Ikki is quickly sucked into the mysterious, irresistible world of Air Trecks.
What are Air Treks?

If you haven't watched the anime, do have a view and see if it's to your liking.
It is mentioned in the anime,
| Air Gear wrote: | | Through the science and advancement of micro-technology, a miniature motor was developed with the power of a four-wheeled vehicle. It allows the production of so much speed that it takes the capability of Roller Blading to a whole new different level and most importantly; world. It allows the user to blaze at astounding speeds, perform impossible stunts and able to literally "Ride the Skies". |
Basically, these are high-end, customizable, motorized inline skates composed of three major components: Wheel Motor, Hydraulic Cushion System, and Power Injection System (basically Electrical Injectors for power control). A Braking System is incorporated with most equipped with a power-lock switch built on the outer sole of the skates (this overrides the acceleration system and enable the Air Trecks to operate as normal inline skates). However most Riders use a Spin-Turn Stop technique, instead of a deceleration system, to come to a complete stop. In any case, speed is generated proportional to the power of the user's leg; the assist motor accelerates based on the force of the kick. Also being customizable, many of skaters have tricked-out their own Air Trecks to suit their own style; changing with various combinations of parts, even screws and/or readjusting the balance, can alter the speed and performance of their Air Trecks tremendously. But speed aside, the biggest thrill of Air Trecks is the precisely calibrated air cushion system, which gives these self-propelled trick skates their juice, allowing the Riders to "fly".
Generally, Air Trecks are very expensive (running normally ¥100,000 a pair), requiring regular maintenance and tuning. Also each pair is installed with a special data support network via a program called READ, which allows Riders to access performance data on another Rider from the data stored on the memory card inserted inside the AT.
Customization
Air Trecks are fully customizable in every aspect, from the skate's design, to the wheels, and even down to the screws. By combining various parts, one can truly make their own unique Air Treck.
Most standard-issue parts are available at most sporting goods stores, but the rare parts must be purchased at specialty shops, which tend to be hidden.
Team members often have identically customized ATs, such as the Yaou's military jeep style ATs.
The standard Air Treck has two wheels, but it is also possible for 4 wheels on each Air Treck, and even using spheres instead of wheels.
Now, on the matter at hand.
What are the possibilities of having a real Air Trek?
Well, based on my understanding. In the past, people never thought it possible to have technologies we now have in the modern world. Wii, XBOX 360, Cars, Telecommunication Devices and even the simplest things such as lighters. So, to that conclusion, how would an Air Trek be any different? I'd say I'll give it 5/10 and see where it goes.
What are the risks of having/wearing/using one?
In the anime, Storm Riders(people who uses Air Treks) can dash at an amazing speed 100 mph or more. If you observe it closely, having that kind of speed in real life is nigh impossible and if not, extremely dangerous. I'd say the ones who are lucky enough to produce this awesome machine in reality knows the boundaries of speed that should be put in it or people who has the possibility of customizing this kind of device would be aware of the risk of the speed they're going through.
When do you think this is possible?
Well, it actually depends if somehow someone from somewhere has the determination and knowledge to overcome all odds and break the barrier of reality. That comes of enduring the overflowing criticism of the masses declaring impossibility in such attempt. Well, I'd guess it'll come around near 2009 - 2012 or so, just a guess.
How would it be possible to stop it?
Good question. As seen on the anime, there were no evidence to support that breaks were available in Air Treks. The only seen stunts that Storm Riders use to stop is the Trek Slide(think on how Ice Skaters stop) by tilting the skate sideways and letting it scratch the ground to produce friction thus reducing speed at a minimal rate or sometimes; stopping it completely which is kinda of impossible due to the high risk of the rider having an accident. Imagine, going at high speed vehicle and having to stop instantaneously?
What are your actions?
Well, I ordered a small motor from china and and getting a few parts here in japan. I tried to re-mod the initial design of the common roller blade and added ended with having extra weight in it and unexplainable external design. My target was to implement all parts and having it look like the original design only adding in minimal mass as to support the weight and balance of the rider and the blade itself. Electric-powered bicycles have been around the world and videos of it on youtube are present until now. Basing on their original concept and having a slight touch of my own is what I'm currently doing right now. The prototype is still on the works but what I'm trying to do is to make internal machinery sturdy to withstand stunts like the average jump and slight friction damage from breaks/grindings. Hopefully, I'll have something that won't break with the slightest attempt of doing a 360 spin-jump.
Any last words?
Well, I'm sure anyone here won't give a damn about it. Others might find it rather interesting but mostly it'll just receive criticism from random narrow-minded fags that don't even bother to read.
But hey! Who knows? If I go through this right, I might be able to start a small company and develop what I've been working on.
Thank you for taking the time to read this little article of mine and have a nice and productive day! _________________
