what ever happend the top 100?

Chickenman you always make me laugh,

To me the prior lost really didnt mean anything. I mean like you said we could just spam our way to the top.

I feel that content is the best way to figure out who has the best site.

Page hits and the like would just be abused I could hit refresh all day if that were the case and then I would be #1.

But then what would it matter? I think what ever the new list is based on I like it. It makes it more fair for the people who actually take the time to make their site good.

I asked because whatever it is that effects such things would be good benchmarks for anyone to know who had a desire to improve and refine their site. This would of course be reflected by a rise in the rankings. So I was not trying to "exploit" anything and I had no idea that asking would be some sort of affront to anyone. Further, I had not expected to get chewed out for asking. Rolling Eyes

I will say this though.

For YOUR information Chickenman, I DO work hard on my forum and people DO want to be part of the site and the activities there. So sir, my site is not "lacking" (and as you put it) "your spam filled forum" is not the case at all. I have but real effort into building my site, keeping it clean and making it look nice. So for your information I am not doing a poor job of running it thank you very much!

I will refrain from further participation here if this sort of borderline abuse and in-your-face response is the result of being inquisitive, blunt and direct.

Pardon me for wanting to learn.

I think what Mark only wanted to put out was we shouldn't mind the top 100 list and get on with improving our own forum. If we wanted to be part of a certain list, I suggest we do it somewhere else. Think of it this way, what if Mark permanently removed the list? Everyone would probably come ranting here to put it back up or a certain individual with a right mind would probably say "The list is gone? ......Ok, doesn't matter anyway. What matters is that forumwise has offered me one helluva service and I'm pretty freaking happy with it. No list is worth than any of that."

Mark, you're doing a great job on improving forumwise. For those who spammed their way to the top(not mentioning any names), why not have a change and try to be more creative and start gathering useful data as thats what the internet was for anyway. Information is being spread through the entire globe in such a rapid speed that anything can be discovered, created and enhanced. I'm pretty darn thankful to the Forumwise staff for offering us with such wonderful and useful tool to emphasize information into its fullest glory and also, to interact with people in a unique way.

BUT on a side note. I do love my thread games. Ye sthey are very spammy but it does keep people coming back.

when they die they are gone.

I actually have to clean my forums a bit.

I really do like the list. Thats just my competative nature. BUT I know with the few members I have I will never be on top.

I am just happy that I HAVE a forum where people can express themselves. I have a great bunch of members that have followed me to three different hosts/servers. Some had shop features and other things. BUT This one has the best support. The fact that we can request things that we want added to our site is the best feature you could ask for.

Not to mention the portal. I love that thing.

I have worked very hard to make our forums the way OUR members like it. With lots of bells and whistles and sci-fi tchotchke all over the place. Yep its flashy and loud and our members LOVE it that way.

But all this is chaff. My point was that chickenman did nothing short of bash my forums and do his best to belittle me for asking some very direct and pointed questions.

I must now make some things clear.

I am told that chickenman did not mean MY forum in particular. When he said "one look at your spam filled forums" he was apparently speaking in a generality and not "my" forums.

So, I wish to make it clear that I now understand he was not attacking me or my forum, nor was he making an attempt to put me down. I took it that way and became riled up and defensive. Embarassed

Thanks, Lazarus88. I think he was most likely speaking in generalities, so yes, please don't take offense with Chickenman on that. The moderators work hard around here, dealing with some of the same questions over and over, etc. I'm grateful for their efforts, and I would hope that others would appreciate their voluntary work as well.
