Since a couple of months ago I have been experiencing the following desktop display error:

You will notice that the icons tend to semi-tile instead of displaying correctly in their entirety. Does anybody have any ideas what might be the cause? Is there a virus or bug that anyone might be familiar with that is known to cause this fault?

In my experience most malicious code will not result in such apparent issues so as to alert the system owner that there is an issue present - I would personally tend to lean more towards an issue with the graphics card or even the monitor itself than a viral concern.

Yeah, you could well be right.

It's my parents' computer and its simply full of bugs. It switches itself off, dumps physical memory, fails to stream media, freezes up and god knows how many more problems. The hilarious part is that my dad is totally reluctant to spend any money on getting it fixed. Even a quote on a reinstall is out the window. It's just mad.

Anyways, I think I can get a new, fairly top of the range one at a discount pretty soon and so I guess I'll just hang on that little bit longer. It's irritating, it's all I've got at the moment to work on.

Just hang in there I suppose.
