I don't know if you've seen the actual pictures, but one of them was featured in the British paper, The Guardian... now if I was Leonardo Da Vinci I'd be insulted by the assumption that he drew them, 'cos firstly they are crap, and secondly they aren't even legal positions.

The picture was in the Guardian newspaper but it doesn't seem to be included in their web version.

However, to satisfy the void I provide an alternative digestif:

According to a fellow chess player, in the days of Leonardo Da Vinci, chess puzzles weren't logical. The artist is just given information on how the pieces move and then draws a diagram to suit. In turn, the artist having no understanding of the game itself subsequently draws an illegal position. In the case of Da Vinci he drew a pawn on the first rank.

The point in an illegal chess puzzle... ? I have no idea.
