There was a severe error on the ForumArena server on March 19. There was a catastrophic error on the disk of the server which corrupted the database. The backups appear to be corrupted as well. I've been picking thru the remnants of what was left, but am unable to find anything usable. This is a heartbreaking loss, but it doesn't look like the ForumArena hosted forums will be coming back. There really isn't any excuse for this, we are very sorry.
REFUNDS/TRANSFERS: If you've made a payment for credits in the last 60 days we will refund 100%, send me the transaction ID. For any payments made previous to the refund window, we can transfer your paid upgrades to a new forum at ForumWise, if you choose to reopen on our other server. We don't plan to reopen ForumArena in the short term.
SHOUTBOX: We have added a local shoutbox to aid in communication with your members.
REDIRECTS: We can add a temporary redirect on your subdomain to a new location. Please send me a private message if you need this with the title "Redirect" and include the new URL.
REREGISTRATIONS: We've also opened registrations temporarily at ForumWise for that that expressed a desire to restart their forums. We can transfer any paid forum upgrades to your new forum.
OLD SMILIES: If if it of use to you, you can view and download the smilie files by visiting the following URL, but change the final directory to match your old forum subdomain: http://www.forumarena.com/images/avatars/chatterz/
I am very sorry about post and data loss from this problem. Somewhat of a freak thing, but I dropped the ball on this not having better protection again data loss. I know that many of you worked very hard on your forums and memberships, and understand this hurts. I am deeply sorry.

I'm very grateful to all that decided to give us another chance with their new forum. Thank you.
It is my plan to get FW moved to a fresh new more powerful server very soon. This new machine will allow us to provide faster forums for everyone. Please note that to avoid data loss we will need to close forums for a brief period, as we switch servers. But I will make sure everything is working on the new machine first, so it will be a completely safe move. We will use some tricks to make the transistion time as short as possible.
I would also like to see if it will be possible to provide admins with their own database backup option. I think that if admins had the ability to download a copy of their database from their admin panel that it would provide a bit of extra comfort about their forum.

Forums hosted on the ForumArena server will be offline for a period for upgrades. The Support Forum and older forums hosted on the ForumWise server will be unaffected. This upgrade is part of a series of steps we are taking to improve our service.
The hardware upgrade should not take too long, upgrade starts around 8:00 PM CST, tonight March 19, 2009. Apologies for the short notice, but it will be best to go ahead and get this procedure over with. Thanks for your understanding.
We also anticipate that before the month is over the ForumWise server may be replaced with a new server which will require some unavailability while moving. Will update this post when we have more info.
